11 Steps to Mom's Plum Torte
This plum torte is a delicacy from Germany. Enjoyed by family and friends with home feel. This cake inspires the moment relaxation especially when you feel things are not going well at the moment. Although many variations of this cake can be made with different fruits (such as apples, or rhubarb & strawberry, or apricots, or, like this recipe, with plums) since we can’t travel to at this time, we bring Germany to your household, it is best to use seasonal fruits rather than ones that have travelled much farther.
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups fruit, thinly sliced (peeled apples)
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 Celsius) – oven rack in the middle of the oven.
Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy in an electric mixmaster
Add eggs and mix well.
Sift flour, baking powder, & salt together. Mix into dough thoroughly.
Pour dough into greased 9 inch round springform cake pan (it really only works in a springform).
Place sliced fruit in one layer covering the dough.
Sprinkle cinnamon over fruit.
Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hr – until golden brown. (If your springform leaks, place form on pan with sides before placing in oven)
Let cake cool in springform for 10 to 15 minutes. Cut around edges of cake before removing from springform.
